ABOUT ZAMPA

Building Bridges Across Two Worlds

Connecting young adults across continents through mutual learning, dignity-based exchange, and youth-driven storytelling

Zampa is the Tibetan word for bridge, symbolizing connection between the two worlds that shape who I am. This project seeks to link the modern, resource-rich United States with the remote, resilient highlands of the Himalayas in India.

It is a bridge between abundance and scarcity, technology and tradition, and individualism and community. Zampa reimagines global connection through mutual learning and kinship—not charity. It envisions a world where young people across continents learn from one another's strengths, challenges, and shared humanity.

THE FOUNDER'S STORY

Namdol's Journey with Zampa

"As a Tibetan-American, I've had the privilege to draw on the best of both worlds. One driven by material growth and another shaped by human connection."

Growing up between the comfort of the United States and the remote highlands of Northern India, Namdol discovered a profound disconnect. While material needs were met in America, a deeper sense of purpose and community was missing. During visits to family in Ladakh, she witnessed a different kind of richness—one rooted in kinship, sustainable living, and ancient cultural heritage.

At 17, after teaching English and playing the dranyen with children in the highlands, Namdol founded Zampa to bridge these two worlds. What began as a personal journey of finding purpose through connection has grown into a mission to empower youth across continents through mutual learning and dignity-based exchange.

Experiential Leadership

Lived experience is a form of expertise. We value the wisdom gained through direct engagement with different ways of life.

Youth Agency

Young adults are not just future leaders—they are today's changemakers. Zampa centers youth voices and leadership.

Climate & Culture

Solutions to the climate crisis must arise from those deeply rooted in sustainable ways of life. Traditional knowledge is essential.

Core Pillars

Three interconnected initiatives that bring Zampa's vision to life

Digital Storytelling & Climate Kinship

Digital Storytelling & Climate Kinship

Pairing young adults from both communities to exchange stories, reflections, and lessons on climate, sustainability, and belonging. Through video diaries, written reflections, and collaborative projects, participants share their unique perspectives on environmental stewardship and cultural identity.

Access to Reading

Access to Reading

Creating mini-libraries in the Himalayas stocked with donated books from the United States to foster reading clubs, expand access to learning, and promote the joy of reading. These libraries serve as community hubs for education and cultural exchange.
